Gretna is located on the West Bank of New Orleans, just minutes from downtown and all of the entertainment and attractions that the city has to offer. The historic portion of the area hugs the banks of the Mississippi River. Strolling along the levee bike and walking path provides a unique view of the city skyline and river traffic.
Settled in 1836 by German immigrants, Gretna is now the seat of Jefferson Parish and home to a large governmental complex that includes the 24th District Judicial Court.
Public and magnet schools in the area are part of the Jefferson Parish school system and there are multiple choices in both parochial and private schools as well.
